Cynthia A. Mayer, D.O., F.A.C.O.I.

Cynthia A. Mayer, D.O., F.A.C.O.I.Dr. Cynthia A. Mayer received her bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, majoring in Nutrition and Dietetics. She completed her medical degree at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Sun Coast Osteopathic Hospital and her Infectious Disease fellowship at the University Of South Florida Morsani College Of Medicine. She is board certified in Internal Medicine as well as in Infectious Diseases. Dr. Mayer has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. She has an academic appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University Of South Florida Morsani College Of Medicine. She has been named in several editions of "The Best Doctors in America" and was featured in an edition of the WVSOM Magazine featuring alumni researchers. Dr. Mayer joined Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay in 1993.

Dr. Mayer is active at Tampa General Hospital having served in the past as both the vice chief and chief of the Department of Internal Medicine, and currently as a member of the Antimicrobial Stewardship program and the Infection Prevention Committee. In addition, she was the Medical Director of the Primary Care Unit from 2003 until 2018. At Kindred Hospital Central Tampa, she is a longstanding member of the Medical Executive Committee, the Infection Prevention Committee, and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee including heading up the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program there. She is the Medical Director of the Pinellas Care Clinic and the Medical Director of the St. Joseph's Comprehensive Research Institute where she works diligently to advance knowledge through cutting edge research in HIV, Hepatitis C and other infectious diseases. She participates in several professional organizations and has given numerous presentations. Her areas of interest include: HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and Hepatitis C/HIV coinfection, solid organ transplant and orthopedic infectious diseases, infections in chronically ill patients, and research. In her spare time, she enjoys bike riding, traveling and learning to play golf.
