To ensure that antibiotics are not overused and become ineffective, we participate in Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs in many local hospitals across the Tampa Bay area.
Our physicians work alongside hospital leadership, infection prevention teams, and pharmacists to promote responsible antibiotic use and protect patients from antibiotic resistance.
We are committed to working with our community to the appropriate use of antimicrobials, improve patient outcomes, reduce microbial resistance, and decrease the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
What Is Antimicrobial Stewardship?
Antimicrobial stewardship refers to coordinated strategies designed to optimize the use of antibiotics and other antimicrobial medications.
These programs aim to:
- Ensure patients receive the right drug, at the right dose, for the right duration
- Prevent unnecessary antibiotic use
- Reduce antibiotic toxicities and side effects
- Reduce the emergence and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria
- Improve clinical outcomes and decrease healthcare costs

Our Role in the Tampa Bay Community
IDATB physicians serve as medical directors and advisors for antimicrobial stewardship programs throughout Tampa, Wesley Chapel, and surrounding regions.
We collaborate with hospitals, outpatient facilities, and public health departments to improve antibiotic prescribing and monitor resistance trends.
Our shared goal: to preserve antibiotic effectiveness for current and future generations.
