Rachel F. Irby, M.D.

Dr. Rachel Irby graduated, Cum Laude, from the University of Florida, where she completed her major in Microbiology and Cell Science, with a minor in Human Nutrition. She completed her medical school, Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. She holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Irby is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. She has served as Chief of Medicine and Chief of Staff at Memorial Hospital of Tampa. She helped develop and currently directs the Antimicrobial Management Program at that hospital. She is a member of the Physician Advisory Group at Memorial Hospital to implement and maintain their electronic health record. At Tampa General Hospital, she coordinates the educational program between IDATB physicians and USF Infectious Disease Fellows-in-Training, as well as the educational program with nursing coordinators for solid organs transplant.

Her interests include bone and joint infections, atypical mycobacterial infections, multi-drug resistant organisms, infectious in patients with solid organ transplant and implanted ventricular assist devices, antimicrobial stewardship, and the care of chronically critically ill patients at long term acute care hospitals. Dr. Irby is a member of several professional associations including: the American College of Physicians, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. She joined Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay in 2011.
